Wallace’s final home, “Old Orchard,” in Broadstone, Dorset, attracted him for its neglected orchard and views of Poole Harbour. After his death in 1913, he was buried nearby, and a commemorative plaque was placed at the site. In 1964, the house and surrounding land were bulldozed for housing development, but the plaque was preserved and later donated to the BNSS by the Linnean Society
