Speaker: Dr Katherine Weikert

Dr Katherine Weikert is Senior Lecturer in Early Medieval European History at Winchester. She
gained her degrees at Evansville (USA) (BA), York (MA) and Winchester (PhD). Her main areas
of research centre around Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman social history and archaeology in the
period 900-1200, Her publications include eds. M Bennett and K Weikert ‘Medieval Hostageship
c. 700 – c.1500: Hostage, Captive, Prisoner of War, Guarantee, Peacemaker’ (London 2017) and
forthcoming ‘Gender, Authority and Space in Anglo-Norman England’ (Woodbridgre 2019).
She was one of several medieval experts appearing in the Winchester episode of the Channel
Four series Britain’s Most Historic Towns presented by Professor Alice Roberts
